The perfect storm, Batman - The Dark Knight
As I predicted last week, the Dark Knight did amazing. It got 9.7/10 on IMDB (Internet Movie Database).
It was the perfect storm because:
- It was a sequel
- It was a good movie
- Heath Ledger’s death inspired people to see it
- It was released on IMAX at the same time
- It was advertised a lot and well
- It had a ton of great well known actors
Heath Lesgers death was not the sole reason this did well. If they had marketed it differently that might have actually ruined the initial opening. They were not afraid to remind us daily of Heath ledgers role, and this was a risk, because people could have backlashed. Some people didn’t go because Heath Ledger died. What would it have been like then? I have never seen a movie on IMDB with such a high rating, and I guessed that one too. I didn’t realize it would be 9.7, but I figured it would be in the 9’s.
The real question is: How do we replicate this? Some people will say you can’t because of Heath Ledger. I think that there were some simple key ingredients, listed above, to this, and that it can be replicated.
